As a young musician, getting the chance to show off your playing skills at a music contest is fun! At American Guild of Music contests, you also receive constructive feedback from talented experts to help you grow as a musician. With events for piano, organ, keyboard, accordion, voice (classical and Broadway), string instruments, wind instruments, guitar, and drums/percussion, there is a music contest for every young music student.
Our music contests focus on the needs of the "everyday" music student. Open to students under 21 years old with 3 months to 12 years of study, the goal is to motivate them in their musical studies. The contests are aimed at inspiring students to continue their music education, whether or not they intend on making music a career. Because whether your young musician dreams of being a rock star, a video game designer – or a concert pianist who plays video games – playing music competently teaches discipline, cooperation, integrity and leadership.

The AGM National Convention and Contest is the pinnacle of the AGM music year, bringing together top performers from regional competitions. The event features the Age, Concerto, and North American Invitational Championship Finals.
You can qualify by competing in the 48th Regional Contest in Detroit, taking place April 25-27, or by entering the final qualifying round at Nationals in July. Either way, there are numerous exciting competitions to enter, including Length of Study, Pop, Theory, Sight Reading, Duets, Duos, and Ensembles.
Additionally, advanced students can participate in AGM's Cadet Teachers Clinic, which provides valuable training on managing a music school and the key skills needed for success in music education. The National Convention also includes a Convention Choir and Orchestra, open to contestants, teachers, and adults. These groups rehearse nightly and perform at the Grand Awards Banquet.
Beyond the competitions, students and their families have the opportunity to explore local attractions, relax by the pool, and connect with peers from different studios—building friendships that last a lifetime while growing as musicians.
We look forward to seeing you there!
